OCTOBER 15TH MIDNIGHT DEADLINE
There is an application opportunity to be completed by October 15th. Apply with your town for a grant for an event on wireless risks. See events at Last Tree Laws for a run-down on applying, sample applications, and ideas like a Piti Theatre show, panel, or presentation. Let me know if you do this & your plans. If you want to invite me to present and need help, ask--I may be able to help with your application.
SIDE QUESTION ON VENUE
If you know of a great library or free location for a panel presentation between Holyoke and Boston, perhaps around Westborough, fairly easy access off the Pike, let me know. I'm interested in getting together a panel of citizens to speak about their local fights against cell towers, and how that works, so I'm also interested in that as well. Or if you have an idea for a good venue, please share.
HEARINGS TUESDAY 10/15
Another hearing is set in the State House presently in room A-1 beginning at 1 PM to hear bills including:
LOBBYING YOUR LEGISLATORS WITH A LIST OF WIRELESS LEGISLATION
You can print and share this list or table of bills with your legislator (2 pages, double-sided). This list is nearly complete, missing just #2 above, and will help with keeping track--you can email that list. If you can, meet with your legislator and go through some of the scientific literature and your concerns. Meeting in person is significant, even if it is during office hours. There is for a donation/sale a PPT or PDF which could be used in person. If meeting, please email how it goes and whether your legislator intends to support anything from the list.
PETITIONS IN OCTOBER
Please send in your request for petitions pronto by mail if you haven't, or get one in person. Each petition has room for 14 signatures from MA registered voters, but 5 signatures are fine if that is all you can get.
When you collect signatures, please share information about your individual concerns and about Last Tree Laws. Connect with people and get them to join permanently, don't just get signatures. Schedule a busy Sunday afternoon to petition at your grocery store! You can also give each person 1 petition with instructions for getting signatures and mailing back. We need to make sure to grow the organization so that we can lobby and, if we don't succeed this year, petition in 2020 when it should be much easier for various reasons.
The press is also asking about the petition, so also get those signatures to show many care about making sure technologies are safer.
Nothing is ever perfect, but remind people that signatures & support also push the legislature into action, and the legislature can put forward an alternative.
Since the newsletter seems to be going to spam, maybe you haven't heard updates! Updates are being posted under press. New updates and clarifications will be added soon as well. Please take a look.
And yes, getting signatures still counts. We've got the petitions, and we're still waiting a court date.
If you're on social media, please share our image for the petition.
There is a new lawsuit against the federal Telecommunications Act, on the basis that the act refuses to allow health concerns to be a consideration in cellular installation. There is nothing to win against the government, so the money is being paid out of pocket via donations.
